SCAD Awareness quilt - Serious inquiries welcome
The SCAD Awareness quilt has toured the country in these juried exhibitions: AQS Paducah, AQS Des Moines, Pacific International Quilt Week, AQS Branson, and AQS Grand Rapids. Independently appraised for $1,200.00 and appraisal certificate available. Free shipping is available.
This quilt turns a medical euphemism on its head. Medical doctors are taught "when you hear hoofbeats think a horse not a zebra." However, some of us ARE zebras and this kind of thinking not only delays healthcare, it can kill. Women, especially younger fit women, are often disregarded when they present to the ER with chest pain. That can prevent the diagnosis of SCAD resulting in death or unnecessary additional damage to the heart and body. My quilt has symbolism embedded throughout. "You" is raised for all of us to take personal responsibility. The white thread is the veins that give us life and the red thread are the SCADS. The white pearls symbolize FMD the #1 correlating disease to SCAD. The Zebra represents genetic causes like EDS, Marfan's and Loey-Dietz. The beating heart life and the butterflies are SCAD survivors growing and flourishing in their new normal. To the right and left borders are words that one has to get close to see - the words represent the silent suffering that you cannot "see" in SCAD survivors. PTSD, ongoing pain, stress, fatigue. I invite you to learn more at www.SCADresearch.org.
