Juried in 40th Annual New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts
“Bloom” was juried into the Lincoln Center’s 40th Annual New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts exhibition. Bloom is a whole cloth thread painting with no exposed canvas. The stripes and color changes of a close-up view of a dahlia were captured, as well as the sheerness and wetness of the dew drops. This level of realism is created by constant changes of thread weight and color to capture the light reflected flower. This subject matter interested me because of the vibrant colors and the mix of the oranges, pinks and reds that creates a feeling of energy. The dew drops bring life and capture a moment in time.
The Lincoln Center has been advancing the world of art quilters for 40 years. The mission of this yearly exhibition is to feature the current work of the finest national and international contemporary quilt artists. This exhibitions prospectus is to exemplify innovation in quilting and surface design techniques as well as excellence in artistic composition and craftsmanship. I am so thankful to the Lincoln Center and the jurors for all they do to advance fiber art and for selecting Bloom to exhibit this year. The jurors were the talented artists Lea McComas, Valerie Maser-Flanagan and Vicki Carlson.
