Honorable Mention for thread painting
My thread painting “A Cactus You Can Touch” received an honorable prize award at Teravarna’s international art competition entitled “Flowers.” I was honored to be recognized at this competition. This painting is based off a photograph from one of my husband’s construction sites. I am always excited to see his completed houses and this was photography day. There was a blooming cactus at the front entry of the house that I could not resist taking a picture of. I knew it had to become a thread painting. I left this quilt raw edged and lose mounted so that people can tactily feel the art of thread painting. It is always a joy to watch someone learn that they can feel the art, turn it over and see the ghost thread image on the back. Then they really get how the painting is made and how many free motion guided stitches it takes to complete the painting. This one took about 6 hours to complete and is 8.5 x 6 inches. If you are interested, it will be available in my shop.
