First Studio Gallery featuring two fiber pieces

I am honored to be represented in the local Phoenix gallery First Studio Galleryt for their summer exhibition. Both pieces are in the online gallery. The opening reception is June 6. I will be there to support all the other artists in the show. The gallery is at First Studio Gallery, Phoenix, AZ 85003. Bleeding Ideals was selected as well as What Goes Around Comes Around 2. Some of you may be familiar with What Goes Around Comes Around 1 as it was featured in Visions Gallery 2024 and Quiltcon 2025. WGACA 1 is BIG measuring at 5’ x 5’ and does not fit into many galleries. I made WGACA 2 at a more gallery friendly 3’ x 3’ and to keep things interesting did a completely different thread pattern. If you read my earlier blog on the subject, WGACA is meant to make people think twice about what they are throwing out to the world. Give someone a smile, get a smile. Give a frown, get a frown. Throw out meanness and get mean girl vibe back. ;) Call someone a name do not surprise when you get the same back. If we all think twice about how we want to be treated, I think the world would be a better place.

Bleeding Ideas was made in 2023 and reflects the madness that is gripping our political parties around the world but the red and blue obviously symbolizes my home, the United States. The red and blue thread represents the political parties with the white in the middle the middle ground of compromise. It is no mistake the white is a small amount of the art space, as compromise seems to be a dying art. Moving away from the white to the left is pale blue fading to democrate pure blue. Moving away from the white to the right is pink fading to pure republican red. The paler blue and red tones symbolize party members willing to compromise on some issues but standing firm on other issues in which they strongly believe. Behind these threads is the blood parties are willing to spill in the name of ideals. Party members are too willing to inflict blood on positions they don’t like. What happened to calm verbal discourse? When did blooding someone become acceptable? I long for the day when true verbal debate was the way to policy and compromise - and when compromise and human rights were not a dirty word. I hope that no more people have to lose their lives to politics.
